how to setup a quarantine tank for new saltwater fish. how to setup a saltwater aquarium for beginners. quarantine tanks can be a hassle to some but it is needed in the saltwater aquarium hobby. In this video I talk about how important a quarantine tank or hospital tank is in the saltwater aquarium hobby and why you need one. A quarantine tank is the only way to kill ich or marine velvet parasite in your saltwater aquarium for good. there isn’t much cycling in a quarantine tank since there is no sand or rock…just water and tank. for this reason, you put a foam filter in like what i have pictured…BUT….if you know you are getting a new fish, you will keep the foam filter in your main tank for about a month. let the bacteria breed on it. put it in your qt and you’re set. if you don’t have something ready, you can put some foam or your sump sock in there. put foam filtration from a canister filter or anything that has been sitting in the display tank for at least a couple weeks.
